With the Pre-Fall collections finally coming into season (we can't wait for REAL fall to come around here in Chicago!), we're counting down our top ten favorite trends to look out for transitioning from summer. Stock up on these pieces (or pull them out of the back of your closet if you have them already) because these pieces are going to be prime candidates for your August-September outfits.

#1 Colored Coats: After buying a hot pink collarless coat last year, I've re-prioritized the coat as an outfit idea to #1 for fall. These colors will stand out transitioning from summer, but still act as a practical coat. For the love of god, throw away your North Face fleece.

#2 Leopard: As Style.com claims, leopard is the "new neutral" for pre-fall. But when is it not? When I started seeing snow leopard prints at J.Crew, I knew leopard had moved out of the scenes of Real Housewives of New Jersey and into women's closets everywhere.

#3 Plaid: When Karl Lagerfeld deems his Pre-Fall collection The Edinburgh Collection and hosts its runway show in the Scottish capital, our ears should perk up. What is Karl telling us??? Plaid is IN. That's what.

#4 Turtlenecks: Can you go wrong with a chunky turtleneck? Can you? You'll never look slutty, you'll always look chic, so what is the problem? Oh yeah, there is no problem. Layer over your new Colored Coat (Trend #1) and you're set for life.

#5 Quilted: Just another detail we can add to leather and puffy coats, and we're loving it. Don't expect this trend to hit stores for a few months when the weather really starts to turn, but if you see it, grab it! Before prices go sky high...

#6 Oxfords: OXFORDS ARE THE NEW FLAT. I REPEAT: OXFORDS ARE THE NEW FLAT.

#7 Military Jackets: Fall season after season, military comes back. There is always a hint of military in some collection over fall fashion week. You can't go wrong! Burberry proves that!

#8 Slip Dresses: The late nineties are making a comeback here with slip dresses, or a Carrie Bradshaw would say in the color nude, her "naked" dress. Wear this to a date and you'll get exactly what you want. Exactly.

#9 Colorblock: Colorblock is a great detail, especially for your corporate work-wardrobe. Its easy to find a flattering colorblock dress to make your waist look slimmer.
